Together with the Paul Martin company and partners of Kunststoffnetzwerk Rheinland-Pfalz the first model of a futuristic IsoGridBike was designed as integral lattice structure and manufactured by CirComp.
A structure with outstanding lightweight potential could be created by following organic pattern in filament winding technology with continuous carbon fiber reinforced ribs. The high strength and stiffness of continuous carbon fibre composite surpass the potential of 3D printed structures by far.
The main frame, rear, saddle and the connecting elements are integrally manufactured and in comparison to known bicycle frame concepts numerous of junctions could be saved. The integral grid structure allows futuristic design and the implementation of bionic forms. The patented IsoGridBike represents a technology platform for other applications in robotics, medical technology and mechanical engineering.
CirComp GmbH Kaiserslautern and the Institute for Composite Materials GmbH (IVW) received the Innovation Award of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate 2016 in the category "Cooperation" for their project "CyWick" (New generation high-temperature resistant fiber composite components) by Secretary for Economic Affairs Eveline Lemke on January 20th, 2016, in Mainz.
